Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions? These FAQs are here to help you understand your options and take the next step with confidence.
What if I’m not seeing a speech therapist right now?
That’s OK. You don’t need to be working with an SLP to start a Lingraphica trial. We’ll guide you through the process from home, and when you’re ready, any VA provider (including a primary care doctor) can help submit for VA funding.
Are Lingraphica devices covered by the VA?
Yes. Most service-connected Veterans can receive a communication device through VA benefits if their VA provider agrees it is medically necessary. We’ll verify with your VA provider that funding is available before your trial begins.
Can I work with a therapist outside the VA?
Yes. You or your community SLP can start the trial with us. We’ll also coordinate with your VA provider to confirm VA funding is available when you request to start a trial. We recommend that you have seen your VA provider in the last 3-6 months.
How does the VA fit in if I’m not being seen at a VA facility?
As long as you have a VA provider who agrees the device is medically necessary, we can provide them with a quote for their purchasing agent. You can do the trial with us, and we’ll handle communication with the VA. We might need your help reaching out to VA providers or getting their contact details, especially if vendor policies make it tricky to connect directly.
How do I explain this to my VA provider?
You can share our brochures or website, or simply give us their contact information. We’ll reach out directly to answer their questions and confirm funding options.
Will Lingraphica contact the VA provider for me?
Yes. With your permission, we’ll connect with your VA provider to discuss next steps and coordinate funding and trial options. Our goal is to make this easy for everyone involved.
How do I know if this device will help?
A trial is the best way to explore whether a device is a good fit for your needs. We’ll send you a device to use at home for 1 to 3 weeks, with support and training included. You’ll get to see how it fits into your daily life and communication goals.
How long does the trial last?
Most trials last 1 to 3 weeks. It’s a hands-on opportunity to explore the device, try it with real-life communication, and decide if it’s a good fit.
What if I need training?
We provide free, remote training during and after the trial. Once you receive a device, you’ll also get lifetime support — for you and any care partners.
Is this different from a regular tablet or app?
Yes. Lingraphica devices are medically necessary AAC tools — not off-the-shelf tablets. They’re built for communication, with fewer distractions and a more focused experience. Unlike tablets and apps, a device comes with a warranty, free training, and lifetime support to ensure long-term success.
Why is it considered a medical device?
Our devices are evaluated and funded by healthcare providers because they support essential communication needs. They include specialized software, therapy tools, and long-term support.
What makes this device Veteran-friendly?
Lingraphica’s Talk app includes folders like “My Military Service” and “My VA,” along with a built-in shortcut to VA Video Connect. The device layout can also be customized to reflect your military background and needs.
Are there Veteran-focused support groups?
Yes. We host monthly Veteran-led virtual hangouts where device users can connect, share experiences, and support each other. The sessions are led by a fellow Veteran and Lingraphica user.
What if I’m not ready for a device?
Even if you’re not ready for a trial, we offer free communication tools, therapy apps, and resources that Veterans can access at no cost. We’re here to support your progress in whatever way makes sense for you.
What if I use VA Video Connect or have virtual appointments?
No problem. We can send a trial device to you and your VA SLP and join your sessions via Zoom. We’ll also help with setup, training, and remote adjustments.
Can my caregiver or partner join the training?
Yes. We encourage communication partners — like family members, spouses, or caregivers — to join training sessions. They’ll learn how to support you and use the device alongside you.
Do you offer mounts or accessories?
We offer custom mounts, keyguards, cases, and other accessories to support your setup and comfort. These can be included during your trial or added after device delivery.
What if I need help customizing the device?
We’re here to help. During your trial and after you receive your device, our team can make custom changes based on your needs and preferences, remotely and free of charge.
How do I know if this is right for me?
The best way to find out is to try it. But if you’re unsure, we’re happy to talk through your needs. There’s no pressure, just information and support when you’re ready.
Can I talk to someone before doing a trial?
Yes. Our team can answer your questions, explain how the process works, and help you decide if a trial makes sense for you.
